Hypnotherapy

WHAT IS HYPNOTHERAPY? Hypnotherapy is for people who want to maximize their potential in life. For many, potential is blocked from developmental issues (e.g., childhood and transitional issues), cognitive and behavioral issues and an inability to access their inner resources. Hypnotherapy uses regression, positive suggestions, guided visualizations, goal setting and metaphor to effect change. Hypnotherapy is safe, reliable and fast.
Hypnotherapy combines standard cognitive and behavioral techniques with hypnosis. Hypnosis is a natural state that we move in and out of during our daily lives. Examples of this state are getting really focused on a movie or good book and realizing a couple of hours have gone by or being focused on a project and the time has just flown by without you realizing it. Using hypnosis enables the therapy to move faster and with more flexibility. Using the natural state of hypnosis also makes it possible to choose from a wide variety of therapies. Furthermore, hypnotherapy uses hypnosis in order to by-pass the conscious mind and prevents it from interfering with the process of change. Only by addressing the unconscious mind can you release old fears, eliminate stubborn habits, unblock emotions and remove limiting beliefs.

Do I need Hypnotherapy?
Hypnosis is a well known and successful treatment for stopping smoking and other habits. Hypnotherapy is effective in dealing with unwanted behaviors and long term emotional issues, particularly where the behavior seems to be automatic or outside the person's control. Hypnotherapy is about getting to the source of the difficulties and creating space for healing and new deciison about life. Typical issues are:

  • I can't seem to form relationships
  • I often feel embarrassed and ill at ease
  • I can't seem to lose weight or exercise
  • I feel like I don't belong
  • I keep putting things off
  • I feel as if something is holding me back
  • I have no confidence
  • I get angry for no reason
  • I feel anxious all the time
Hypnotherapy uses your natural ability
Hypnotherapy utilizes a variety of techniques that tap into the natural ability you already have. We all have a built in process for learning - we have used it since we took our first breath. However, in the course of growing up that learning process absorbed anything and everything. As a result, some of us acquired distorted ideas and beliefs that today dictate what we think about ourselves and the world we live in. Hypnotherapy uses that same natural learning process but in a planned and clinical manner. It uninstalls outdated and unhelpful learning and replaces it with positive thoughts, new experiences, and new decisions about who you truly are.
Hypnotherapy and Hypnosis
Hypnotherapy uses hypnosis because it is the best way to make the changes you want. If you have ever driven home and can't remember anything about the journey, or if you have been so absorbed in a book or a film that you lost track of time, then you have been in hypnosis. All that hypnotherapy does is to call up this natural state when required instead of waiting for it happen at random.
What happens in a Hypnotherapy session?
A personalized therapy plan is created together as we agree on how best to achieve the outcome you want. The plan usually includes hypnosis, but it may also use non-hypnotic techniques. Hypnosis techniques include carefully targeted direct suggestions, guided imagery, parts therapy, and regression. Non-hypnosis techniques include standard cognitive behavioral therapies such as EFT, NLP modalities, and metaphor.
How many sessions will I need?
Some problems such as smoking or weight loss have a standard protocol and typically take several sessions. Some problems may need more sessions depending upon goals of the client. Most people see a dramatic improvement after one session. If there is no significant improvement after three sessions then this type of therapy should be reconsidered.
How long does it take?
Each session is initially booked for one and a half hours, usually taking just over an hour allowing time for integration and discussion. If you need more than one session, the usual pattern is to have one session per week, but some clients prefer longer between sessions, sometimes several weeks. Each session is a distinct therapeutic unit and will have its’ own benefits independent of any other sessions. The effect is greater and longer lasting with repeated sessions.
